Read on some of the clubs we have at Earl Haig!

Model United Nations

Category: Competition/Academic

ABOUT THE CLUB

Model United Nations is one of the biggest competition clubs at Earl Haig. Our club is a mock simulation of the United Nations, closely tied to global politics. Throughout the year, club members have the opportunity to attend various conferences, representing countries or key characters to discuss the dire challenges the world is facing.

HaigMUN helps students grow on many different levels, from amplifying their knowledge on politics and global affairs to gaining valuable experience in leadership and communication. Students are evaluated at conferences based on their performance; however, winning an award isn’t required — the main focus of our club is elevating student growth.

Whether you are looking to participate in conferences, make new friends, or are curious to try something new, Model United Nations has a seat for you. Through workshops, simulations, and participation in conferences, delegates refine their public speaking, negotiation, and research skills in a collaborative and intellectually vibrant environment.

FBLC

Category: Competition/Academic

ABOUT THE CLUB

FBLC is the largest student business organization in Canada consisting of various

competitive events. Majority of the events take the form of role-play, case studies, tests and projects. The events range from public speaking and leadership-focused projects to industry-specific competitions, including but not limited to healthcare and coding. Hence, allowing students to immerse themselves into a professional business environment with a

competitive edge. Additionally, CNLC, the principal competitive conference, gives students the

opportunity to network with like minded students, sometimes connecting internationally to collaborate and compete with international students. This enriching business experience allows students to not only educate themselves on various business topics but also to follow their passions and explore business as a Pathway.

This club gives Earl Haig students the opportunity to explore specific business pathways in areas such as healthcare, coding and business law. This will positively impact Earl Haig as we are helping students to gain business experience in real world applications such as role plays and projects. In addition, because FBLC is an educational club teaching business, it allows students to apply the information they learn in their respective business classes.

MEETING INFO

Meetings will be conducted bi-weekly on Wednesday and Thursdays, in room 285 and 284. For those who miss attendance, they are able to conduct tasks on Google Classroom as an assignment.

APPLICATION PROCESS

We plan to broadcast club information on Radio Haig, FBLC’s Google Classroom and the FBLC Instagram account (@earlhaigfblc). There, we will share details about the club, such as meeting dates and locations, as well as GM applications. Prior to applications, we plan to host an information session where students will be shown the different requirements of each event and will have an opportunity to learn about the club. The session will also give potential GMs an opportunity to connect with executive members and ask questions before applications are released near the beginning of October. Our application process for general members consists of a google form with detailed questions about their passion towards business and the field that they are most interested to compete in. Students can find the general member application on our Instagram page or in our google classroom. Furthermore, executives will take time to review every application to consider whether the general member is eligible for competing at CNLC.

REQUIRED SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE

We welcome everyone to join our club, especially students who are eager to learn about the various business fields and are committed towards improving their business knowledge and competing in our yearly competition.
