What an era to be alive... is what Canadian fans of Taylor Swift have been saying since she announced six Toronto concert dates in November as part of her Eras Tour. However, with ticket prices through the roof and Americans seemingly buying all the tickets, many Canadian fans are questioning whether it is worth fighting tooth and nail for a golden ticket.

For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past year, Taylor Swift has been on a world tour performing songs from each of her many “eras,” from her debut to her most recent album, Midnights. With a 45-song setlist but over 243 songs released, fans eagerly await the “surprise songs” she performs along with her main set, and with the announcement of her newest album, The Tortured Poets Department, Canadian fans are speculating that the new songs will become “surprise songs” in time for her shows here.

However, many Canadians are complaining that fans from the US, which has already enjoyed over 50 shows from coast to coast, are buying all the tickets because of how close Toronto is to the border. This controversy has rocked the internet and led to some serious drama, as fans frustratedly claim their opportunity to see Taylor Swift has been stolen by “fake swifties” and Americans.

The copious money and effort associated with getting tickets has led many fans to find alternative ways to enjoy the show, such as the Taylor Swift Era’s Tour concert film, which became available to rent on Disney+ on March 15. Although many agree that the in- person experience is ideal, others have expressed that going to a semi-outdoor concert in the mid-November Canadian cold is not an enjoyable experience.

So, the question arises. Is it worth it to give up your life savings and your firstborn child to watch the Eras Tour in the freezing cold? Or is it better to simply rent the movie with friends and sing your heart out in your living room?
